Feeling Connected to Family During COVID-19
Hello, my name is Taylor (she/her) and I am looking forward to having great discussions this semester! As for this week, I would like to discuss the website/platform Trickster Cards. The website is nothing out of the ordinary, however, it is a platform that my family and I have been using regularly throughout the pandemic. This is a website that allows people to play a variety of card games with robots or with friends/family. Not being able to see my grandparents due to the lockdown is tough. Unfortunately, FaceTime is not always great because we are all stuck in our homes and there is not much to talk about, and text is not always engaging as it is an asynchronous means of communication.
Trickster Cards is very easy to use. Currently, the platform offers nine card games, with some games requiring six players and others requiring four players. The variety of games has been great so none of us get bored, and when someone is busy we can find a new card game. My favourite game is Oh Hell, but we have also been playing Euchre and Hearts. All the games are very easy to learn, and it is nice to have a computer that deals the cards because it goes faster and allows us to play more rounds. The website allows players to add their camera and audio, therefore my family can play with my grandparents and have casual conversations. In the moments where there is not much to say we can still enjoy each other's company without awkward silence because we are focused on the game. Playing cards is an activity that gives us something to talk about, and it is a great way to feel connected to them during this time. Overall, this is a great way to be social in a synchronous way using technology, thus alleviating boredom.

Thank you for reading!
Hello Taylor, I really enjoyed reading your opening post. Trickster Cards seems like a fantastic way to keep in touch with family and friends in a truly engaging way. Seeing the rise of platforms such as this, house party and Netflix party really goes to show how the internet and being online can be uplifting when we need it most, amidst lockdowns and the COVID-19 time period. I Definitely look forward to trying this application with my family as it seems like it will be a much more even playing field than our usual family card games, which are typically pretty hilariously filled with cheating and ultra competitiveness. Thank you for sharing!
