International Podcasts on Youtube
Hello everyone in CS371! My name is Matthew Spina and I would like to focus my first blog post around a podcast I typically watch on Youtube called The Fellas. The U.K based podcast, hosted by Youtuber's Calfreezy and TheBurntChip, has been running for almost a year amassing over 350,000 subscribers. They primarily discuss ongoing pop culture moments happening around the world to their past life experiences while also inviting guest's onto the show to provide deeper insights into their lives. For example, these guests could range from fellow Youtuber's to watch collectors and comedians. The Fellas podcast is also available on multiple platforms such as Apple Podcasts and Spotify providing listeners with the ability to both view and listen to their weekly episodes.
The Fellas podcast is a great example as to how social media and social life can be intertwined while providing the ability to connect humans on a global scale. A primary example of this could be culture. With many of the guest's appearing on the podcast to be born in the United Kingdom, it allows viewers from across the globe to experience what life could be like living in England. Additionally, the podcast was created during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is important because it provided fans with a means of entertainment which resulted in a deeper connection between the listeners and the hosts.
In my opinion, I believe that Youtube has the greatest impact on our contemporary society out of all the social media platforms. With billions of users and videos that can all be accessed at the click of a button on your smart phone, Youtube has the ability to reach anybody from across the world. For me personally, I use Youtube for pretty much anything from entertainment to learning new skills such as cooking or creating music.
Hello Matthew, I also find myself tuning in to The Fellas podcast when I have time. Although I must admit, recently I have been listening to their mysteries show more often. I enjoy seeing youtube communities from around the world and especially those from the United Kingdom. It truly is a fascinating way to learn about different cultures and senses of humour. I would agree with your opinion that youtube has the biggest influence on contemporary culture as it does have an immensely large audience that seems to be dedicated and returning. This is interesting as it may contrast television media as returning viewers to a specific channel at a specific time (while it does exist) seems to be lost in our generation of young adults. Thank you for the great post, I look forward to this term.
