True crime podcasts

Hi, my name is Maddy Violi.

I love listening to podcasts while I’m driving or doing homework, I find them to be very interesting and fun to listen to. I especially enjoy listening to true crime podcasts, as I find them to be very intriguing.

One podcast that I recently really enjoyed is on the Gabby Petito case. It is about a girl that was driving across the US on a cross-country trip with her fiance and recently, within the past few weeks, has gone missing. I have heard of this story all over social media, and if you are on TikTok I feel like you have probably already heard of this case.

True crime podcasts are not for everyone, however, there are many other genres of podcasts, and there is definitely something for everyone to enjoy and listen to!

Here is the link to the podcast on the Gabby Petito case if you would like to listen!

  1. Hey Maddie,

Like yourself I also happen to be a fan of true crime and mystery as well and crime podcast something I too enjoy hearing about. The recent Gabby Petito case has been very interesting to follow along with since you could see it developing in real time with the use of different sources of media. Recently they someone found footage of the the van Gabby was in and it turned out to be a very crucial piece of evidence in the investigation, which is kind of crazy to think about. Podcasts in general are great I think and they give you the ability to chill out and listen to a story narrated by someone else or even just listen to people talk about mundane subjects.

  2. Hi Maddy, great post!

I too wrote about true crime podcasts for my introduction to the blogosphere. I find podcasts to be a fulfilling pass time for someone who is constantly on the go and may not always have the time to sit down and watch a movie or tv show but still enjoys the storytelling aspect of it all.

I too, am constantly staying up to date on current true crime cases and one of my go to podcasts to listen to is actually the one you mentioned in your post "Crime Junkie" hosted by Ashley Flowers and Brit Prawat!

If you're looking for new true crime podcasts to listen to and you love "Crime Junkie" as much as I do, then you should definitely check out "My Favorite Murder" hosted by Georgia Hardstark and Karen Kilgariff. I highly recommend!!

    All the best,
    Keelin

  3. Hey Maddie,

Thanks for the post! This past year I've really started to get into podcasts. I have 3-4 of them that I listen to on a weekly basis. However, it is really intriguing to see how many of our fellow bloggers in this class chose to write about true crime podcasts as their topic of choice. Podcasts really started to take off and become popular within the past 2-3 years, and I've noticed that within our specific demographic (college students), there is a big liking and draw towards true crime podcasts. I was recently told by a close friend to listen to a true crime podcast, so I gave it a try and it was pretty good. I listened to a 'True Canadian Crime' and a 'Dateline' true crime episode.
When it comes to media content about true crime, I personally need to have some form of visual aspect incorporated with it, such as a documentary or youtube video. Most recently I started to watch 'JCS - Criminal Psychology' channel on youtube. It's a narrated youtube channel that shows the interrogation tapes of some of americas most violent killers and criminals. It is super interesting and i highly recommend giving it a watch. I've attached a link below of one of their videos.

    Thanks again for the post!

    1. Hi Josh,

It is very interesting how quickly podcasts took off and became popular so fast. I have also noticed that many people that are around my age also love listening to podcasts. I personally really enjoy them because it is easy to multitask while listening to them. I will definitely check out your Youtube suggestion as it sounds really interesting.

      Thanks!

  4. Hi Maddy,
Great post! I am also a fan of true crime podcasts and think that it is super interesting how popular they have become. I have noticed that a lot of my friend also enjoy listening to podcasts and having them go in the background. Although I do really appreciate listening to podcasts I am also a pretty visual person so I enjoy being able to have some visual components to what I am listening to such as videos on youtube, instagram or TikTok. The fact that technological advancements and social media has made it so easy for individuals to access podcasts is really intriguing for me and something that I value.

  5. Hey Maddy,
I have just recently started to get into listening to podcasts and really wanted to start listening to true crime ones but didn't know where to start so I'm glad for this post! I am definitely going to check out the Gabby Petito episode you linked as I have been hearing about the case all over social media recently and I am very interested into learning more about what happened. If you or anyone else reading this comment has any more true crime podcasts or episodes they want to recommend to me I'm all ears. Thanks so much!
