Blog Post 3 - Amelia Arlen

 For this post, I'll be connecting the 95 Theses by Martin Luther and the "Woman Yelling at a Cat" meme to the third articulation which is concerned with how media is brought into and spread within a culture, community, or society. Part of what makes these two medias so popular is that the production of them is quite simple. Luther was tasked with writing his thoughts down and then nailing them to the door of a church and the meme is just two pictures and some words pasted together. The distribution and circulation is also rather simple. The community Luther lived in simply had to just walk up and either copy down what was written and share with others or the message would be circulated via word of mouth since it was a predominately oral society. As for the meme, memes can circulate and become popular rather quickly online because sharing them is not difficult thanks to the abundance of social media platforms present. The consumption and reception of the media also is not difficult, as previously mentioned, Luther was living in a predominately oral society therefore consumption of his work would not be difficult. This would also make reception easier because if there are questions about what's being said there are people to talk through it with. The consumption of memes is quite simple online as they are everywhere. However, the reception of a meme can be difficult based on whether the person understands it or not and also whether they feel the same way. The second one being more of problem with highly political memes. That is why both Luther's 95 Theses and the "Woman Yelling at a Cat" meme were so popular in their time.
