Coffee Meets Bagel: Governance and Prohibitions of the App (Post 6) -Annabelle Spina

             An app's governance involves how the app provider manages and regulates user activity to sustain their operating model and fulfill their vision (Herman, 2021). Governance is reflected in Coffee Meets Bagel's rules and guidelines, which place regulations on the types of users allowed on the app and their kind of activities. When first using the app, there are several things Coffee Meets Bagel wants to put out in the open. One must be 18 to use the service, create an account for their actual, truthful self, and understand that Coffee Meets Bagel does not guarantee anything about their services, nor do they conduct background checks or identify the identity of their users. Governance expands from simply managing user activity to implementing norms and values. By signing up for Coffee Meets Bagel, you agree not to post inappropriate content, information about a third party, or advertise any product or service. In addition, one mustn't collect user content, interfere with other users' access, or attempt to obtain another user's login information. Coffee meets bagel does have the right to investigate any violation of this agreement and may terminate your access to the service at their sole discretion (CMB, 2021). Formal policies provide information about user data ownership and applications, expected community standards, and privacy matters. Similar matters can be found in the frequently asked questions section, which offers governance by outlining preferred user practices. One also assumes all risks when signing up for the service and must understand that Coffee Meets Bagel does not guarantee romantic matches.

Hello everyone in CS371! My name is Matthew Spina and I would like to focus my first blog post around a podcast I typically watch on Youtube called The Fellas . The U.K based podcast, hosted by Youtuber's Calfreezy and TheBurntChip, has been running for almost a year amassing over 350,000 subscribers. They primarily discuss ongoing pop culture moments happening around the world to their past life experiences while also inviting guest's onto the show to provide deeper insights into their lives.   In class we discussed the concept of media assemblages or media ecologies which are a collection of forms and practices that facilitate a specific media environment. A media ecology can be understood and analyzed by the use of three distinct articulations.  The articulation of focus is #3, which focuses on how the medium is brought to life, and how it is spread through a culture, community or society to best deliver the message. This means taking advantage of spatio-temporal concepts of media distribution, creation and consumption.
