"Daily Mail" Snapchat Stories

Hello everyone! My name is Annabelle Spina, and I am a third-year Communications and management student.

For my first blog post, I decided to write about something on social media I enjoy checking daily, which is the “Daily Mail” Snapchat stories. I have always been fascinated with the lives of celebrities, and when I was younger would spend hours reading “People” magazine, which features countless stories about famous people’s lifestyles. Since Snapchat introduced its official Snapchat story "discover" feature, I began watching the Daily Mail stories consistently. Daily Mail is formatted like a digital magazine that users can flip through by simply clicking their screens. Daily articles are posted and feature stories, photos, and videos of important news and celebrity’ lifestyles. Since being introduced to Daily Mail on Snapchat, I have not picked up a magazine; I solely get my information on celebrity gossip from Snapchat.

I think Daily Mail forms a strong connection between social media and social life as it gives readers, such as myself, the option to feel connected to the lives of celebrities by simply opening up Snapchat. I would love to know if anyone else reads Daily Mail or a similar official Snapchat story?

  1. Hi Annabelle, I greatly enjoyed reading your blog this week! I also have a Snapchat account, and while I do not read the magazine stories (i.e., Daily Mail, Cosmopolitan, People) daily I do find the front covers to always be amusing headlines. Sometimes when I am bored I will read the full magazine, as I also find the lives of celebrities to be intriguing. While some articles can be entertaining, I am sure you experience this sometimes, is that the articles are ridiculous and I find myself asking “why is this important enough to take the time to report on?” I feel that it is very easy for ordinary people to forget that celebrities are real people, and while they may have “signed up for this,” that does not mean that every part of their identity should be analyzed and their entire concept of privacy should be taken away from them. One benefit of these magazine stories is that it helps consumers save money as they do not need to buy it, thus they are able to remain updated on popular culture events. It is just important that people know to not believe everything they read. I find it very interesting when media companies create partnerships that better both brands, so thank you for discussing this topic!
